10 Ways to Create More Joy in Your Day

Are your days filled with joy? Most of us have good days and bad, but wouldn’t it be lovely to experience more joy in every day we have?

Well, there are ways you can do just that – starting today. You might be surprised to discover how easy it is to do too.

1: LEARN TO APPRECIATE THE MOMENT
It sounds easy and it is, but how many of us do this? We’re typically in such a rush to tick things off our to-do lists, we rarely stop to smell those proverbial roses. Whenever you sense your mind is rushing forwards or back, take time to stop and focus on that moment.

2: ENJOY THE SMALL THINGS THAT GIVE YOU PLEASURE
As I write this, the sun is streaming in through the window. That makes me feel happy. You could argue this isn’t a small thing, but it is very easy to take for granted. How many small things can you find joy in each day.

3: ALLOCATE TIME EACH DAY JUST FOR YOU
Even 10 minutes here and there can make a difference. I like to enjoy 10-15 minutes each morning before I start the day, and the same again before bed. What would you do with those precious moments? You’d be surprised how much more positive you feel about each day when you do this.

4: DISCOVER WHAT NOURISHES YOU
It could be a certain food. It might be reading a book by your favourite author. Maybe it is 20 minutes of yoga, or a walk around your local park. Find what nourishes you and do it more often.

5: ASK YOURSELF WHAT MAKES YOU MOST JOYFUL
No doubt you can think of a few things. Make a list if it helps. Put it somewhere you will see it every day and resolve to remind yourself of it to attract more joy into your life.

6: FIT IN AN ACTIVITY EACH DAY THAT BRINGS YOU JOY
If you could only choose one thing, what would it be? Walking outdoors would be mine. The weather doesn’t bother me either – a little rain can be quite very refreshing (my dog doesn't agree though)!

7: ENJOY NATURE
The obvious thing to do is to go outside whenever you can. Take a long walk, or even a short one, to reconnect with nature and breathe in some fresh air. But you can enjoy nature in other ways too. Maybe you can see a gorgeous display of flowers from your window. Perhaps new buds are starting to push through the soil. You could even plant a window box you can see each day. Doing this outside your kitchen window is a great idea and quite easy to do.

8: START EACH DAY IN A HAPPY FRAME OF MIND
Things happen in all our lives that could make us feel sad or annoyed. But we rarely have a reason to get out of bed in the mornings feeling like that. We have control over how we begin each day. Resolve to begin your days feeling happy and appreciating the joyful things in your life. Try it for a week and see what a difference it makes.

9: ASK YOURSELF WHAT YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR
There are plenty of things I bet you’re grateful for each day. But how often do you recognise those things? Being grateful is something many of us do unconsciously. Try making a list of the things you’re grateful for or even better start a gratitude journal, there are so many beautiful journals to choose from or simply grab your favourite notebook. 10: START ADDING IN TINY BREAKS THROUGHOUT THE DAY
What do I mean by tiny breaks? Simple pauses throughout your day.  Even if you are at work and you cannot find time for a break, you can be still for a moment. A few seconds is all it takes to centre yourself and to remind yourself of the joy in your life. Do it often and you’ll be amazed how differently you’ll feel.

How will you bring joy into your life today?
It you're feeling overwhelmed by my list, then pick one item to start with. Experiencing even more joy in your day is a good thing, one you should enjoy once you start making it happen. But you need to get to that point in your own time and so choose the item that resonates most with you – the one you feel you can do easily.

From there, you can begin adding in other items as and when you feel it is right to do so. Fast-forward a month from now – how do you see yourself? Feeling lighter, happier and enjoying your day more?
