A new season is a wonderful trigger for creating new intentions. Every day is a new day and brings with it the opportunity for a new beginning. A new season somehow makes that even more powerful, doesn’t it?
Stepping into spring (especially after a snowy end to a chilly winter) brings a sense of renewal and excitement – more so than any other season. So, if you want to get started with a spring in your mind, body, and spirit, here are some great ways to do just that.
CLEARING SPACE PHYSICALLY AND ENERGETICALLY
Spring is a wonderful time to declutter and clear the space around you – both inside and outside your home. It’s nice to curl up and sort through books and paperwork (especially with a cup of your favourite tea to hand), but it’s better still to get up and do lots of physical tasks.
Cleaning your home from top to bottom allows you to stretch your limbs and get some exercise. You will also feel the energy from ridding your space of things you no longer want or need. What better way could there be to help cement those new intentions for the new season ahead? What would you like to achieve this month, this season, this year? Dreaming big might mean you don’t achieve those dreams, but you’ll surely get closer than you would have if you hadn’t dreamed them at all. And you never know how much you are capable of if you don’t allow those dreams to take flight.
MEDITATING OR SITTING QUIETLY
Some people don’t like the idea of meditation or find it difficult to achieve. With practice it gets easier I promise. Simply start by lighting a natural candle and sitting quietly while your mind slowly adjusts and begins to slow down. Let the thoughts of the day pass by like clouds, letting each one go while you bring your focus to your new intentions for the season ahead. You’ll be surprised how powerful this is, especially if you practice it every day.
CREATING A WORD OR PHRASE AS A DAILY REMINDER
How often do you set new intentions, only to let them slide and forget about them in the coming days? It’s easy to let life get in the way of even the best intentions, isn’t it?
That’s why I find a daily reminder worthwhile. However, it needs to be easy if it is going to work – a simple word or phrase that encapsulates your intentions. ‘I will eat well to nourish my body and mind.’ ‘I will write 1,000 words on my novel today.’ ‘I will do one thing to help declutter my home.’ If your goal is to destress, simply saying ‘peace’ to yourself each day could act as a good reminder.
WRITE THEM DOWN (WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT THE DETAILS)
What do you do if you have, say, six or seven things you need to buy from the supermarket? (Bear with me, there is a reason for this example.) I would guess you would write them down, so you don’t forget anything. The same technique works just as well for new intentions.
I find choosing a nice journal or even a beautiful notepad is a good thing to use for this. Choosing something that looks nice and has value to you will make it more important and worthwhile. Jot down your intentions and don’t get too hung up on the details. This is a place to be positive and to write down what you want to do. Don’t think too much about how you will do it, just be sure you get those intentions written down. You can then refer to them whenever you need to. You might even find it works to write them down as if you have already achieved them. This creates a positive connection in your mind and makes their achievement easier than it might otherwise be.
HOW WILL YOU STEP FORWARD INTO SPRING THIS YEAR?
I find it very inspiring to watch new life appear in the garden each spring. While this year might see a delay in the daffodils coming up because of the snow, it’s still amazing to see them resolutely pushing through the cold ground and the snow.
New intentions work in much the same way, don’t they? We leave the winter months behind and push on into spring, and the warmer weather, longer days, and brighter mornings are very inspiring. What do you want to achieve in your life? Which intentions do you have that could spring forth into bigger and better achievements from now on?
This is a wonderful time to get those intentions down on paper, and to clear your mind and your life so you stand a chance of achieving what matters most to you. I think we have earned the right to look forward to the start of spring, don’t you?
