Would you like your home to have a calmer and more positive feel to it? I'm not suggesting a picture perfect image by any means because for most of us, that's not entirely realistic. But, I do believe that a few small changes can create a more mindful home, one that it inspires us to enjoy the present moment and the time we spend with ourselves or the people we love.
If you're ready to make those changes then I've shared a few tips that i hope will inspire you on your journey to creating a more mindful home...
1: BEGIN THE DAY AS YOU MEAN TO GO ON… AND MAKE YOUR BED
When you’re in a hurry, it is very easy to spring out of bed and neglect to make it. But it only takes a moment or two to make your bed, and when you return in the evening, there is nothing better than seeing a ready-made bed to climb into, especially if you’re tired. It looks inviting… whereas an unmade bed can make anyone feel stressed. Just think about which vision looks better – a tangle of quilt and pillows, or a freshly-made bed with plumped pillows, cushions, and perhaps a neatly-folded blanket.
2: DECLUTTER AS YOU GO ALONG
If you know you need to declutter every room in your home, don’t panic. Take one room at a time and spend a weekend on each one. Throw out, donate, or sell the things you no longer need or want. Don’t rush – enjoy the process. Once you begin, you’ll be surprised how good it feels to do it.
When you have decluttered a room, make a point of decluttering as you go along in future. It only takes a moment to tidy things away, and it helps maintain a calming and enjoyable space. That way, you’ll never need to do a major declutter again.
3: BE MINDFUL, BE MINIMAL
Decluttering helps, but you can go much further than this. Being mindful of your surroundings means understanding which items bring you joy, and which ones simply fill space. Think about your kitchen. Are the worktops cluttered? If you take time to reorganise your cupboards, getting rid of anything you no longer use or want, you’ll have more space to put away things that normally sit on the worktop. Making the best of the space you have is key – no matter how big or small your home is
4: EMBRACE NEUTRALS
There is no need to recoil in horror at the thought of magnolia. Neutral colours are relaxing, calming, and easy to combine with each other. There’s no need to resort to magnolia nowadays. Splashes of your favourite colour can then be added where appropriate. You can turn every area of your home into a calming, relaxing space where you’ll love to be.
There’s a lot to be said for wood too. Natural items bring a sense of calm. It’s also better to invest in items that will last years – classics that will never go out of date.
5: INTRODUCE GREENERY INTO YOUR HOME
What better way to accent neutrals than with some greenery? I love indoor plants and there are so many you can introduce into your home, from tall ones in large pots to smaller ones on windowsills. As well as looking beautiful, plants also help reduce carbon dioxide levels, rid the air of pollutants and even help minimise dust (which can only be a good thing)! If you’re new to plants then look for something that doesn’t need too much care and just be sure to put it in a spot that it can thrive in.
6: CLEAN THE AIR
Don't we all love walking into a beautifully scented home? Avoid filling your home with artificial fragrance though and instead make the switch to natural aromatherapy oils that not only fill your home with light natural scent but have added holistic benefits for everyone in your family. Try picking up a few essential oils and using a diffuser or take a look at our collection of natural soy wax aromatherapy candles, each one created to evoke feelings of Love, Gratitude, Trust or Peace within your home.
MINDFULLY CREATED FOR YOU AND YOUR HOME:
Creating a more mindful home isn’t always something you can achieve overnight. But once you start, I’m sure you’ll love the process and enjoy living in a space that makes you feel more relaxed and mindful. Try it and see how good it feels.
