How to use affirmations to create positive thoughts

The mind is everything, what you think you become - Buddha

Being intentional about the life that you want to create starts with your mindset. Now, don’t get me wrong I believe just as fiercely about taking action, because life doesn’t change by sitting on the sofa all day thinking happy thoughts. But, I’ve always found that if I can tackle those thoughts racing around my mind then taking the action is so much easier.

There are lots of ways to tackle this…

To keep my mind on track and stay clear about my intentions for this life, I practice a few different things including meditation, EFT and yoga.  And, I practice them all every single day because they all make a difference to how my mind approaches things and the internal chatter that goes on up there! Today though, I want to talk about something else that I find helpful; positive affirmations...

Did you know....

Our brains can’t tell the difference between what is real and what isn't, that’s why a dream can feel like it actually happened. This means that it will believe anything we tell it. So, if you’ve spent your whole life saying ‘I’m such a lucky person’ then chances are that you are. And, have you ever noticed how good things seem to happen to the happiest people? Surely it’s just energy attracting more of the same thing. So, it makes sense to keep our energy as positive as we can, right?

Because in short; our thoughts create what we believe and what we believe changes the way we feel which in turn impacts the action that we take.

Convinced or not, I encourage you to take some time to think this through…are your thoughts moving you in the direction that you’d like your life to be heading?

If not, then you can change them. Starting today. It’s that easy. But, you have to be consistent. Here are a few ways to switch your negative thoughts for positive affirmations...

  • I can’t do this >>>> I am growing stronger every day and I can handle this
  • I’m not smart enough >>>> I have everything that I need within me
  • This is as good as it gets >>>> I have the power to make my dreams come true
  • I’m really not that lucky >>>> I am worthy of great things

I encourage you to create your own affirmations, the key is to keep them present and positive. Simply starting with I am... or I have… is a great way to begin. I’ve created a free printable list of 20 Positive Affirmations to get you started…

Now, I’m more than aware that there’s conflicting research surrounding the use of positive affirmations. It’s not surprising that some of us react differently to positive statements, especially if you have a deep rooted belief that conflicts with what you are saying. My thoughts? Give them a try and if something feels uncomfortable then use that as a starting point to seek out an alternative healing therapy that feels right for you.

Remember, if you’ve never used positive affirmations before then you might feel a bit silly to begin with, especially if your other half finds sticky notes declaring ‘I Love Myself’ all over your bathroom cabinet. But, I encourage you to go with it, use your affirmations to help you stay focused on what you’re bringing into your life and get ready to feel the changes.
