Is it time to upgrade your Wellness Routine? Here's How…

What does your wellness routine look like? Maybe you feel like it’s time to add a few things to it; a yoga class, cleaner food or simply a few minutes to yourself here and there. Or perhaps this is the year that you want to start afresh and create a whole new wellness plan. Wherever you’re starting from, I’ve put together a few tips to help you on your way.     

Ready to upgrade your wellness routine? Let’s get started… 

MAKE A COMMITMENT TO YOURSELF: Before starting anything new, I think that it’s important to make a commitment to yourself. Why? Because, let’s be honest the motivation that you feel at the beginning of something new can soon start to wane. And, losing your connection with the reason why you started in the first place can send everything off the rails. Take some time to think about what a healthier wellness routine means to you, how it would make you feel and what you are willing to commit to making it happen. 

ACKNOWLEDGE WHERE YOU ARE: It’s easy to start this process by berating yourself for all the things that you’re not doing but there’s probably at least one thing in your wellness routine that’s working. (don’t worry, if not we all have to start somewhere). Acknowledge what you are doing well before moving on.  

CREATE A TARGET: We can’t reach a destination if we don’t know where we’re heading and so set yourself a target or two. If you’re anything like me then you’ll be tempted to go overboard and set yourself 10 targets, convinced that you can achieve them all. I’ve learnt that this is the easiest way to feel demotivated and ultimately fail. It’s much better to pick 2 or 3 things that you can make real progress on rather than 10 that you can barely get started. Here are a few ideas…

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS: I find this to be a great way to keep my motivation going. As you’re working on upgrading your wellness routine, write down your daily progress in a journal or notebook.  Or keep a habit tracker somewhere you can see it and tick off every day that you reach your goal.

CELEBRATE: When you reach a goal, no matter how small, celebrate. How you do this is up to you, it could be a trip to your favourite place, a quiet afternoon to relax, fresh flowers or a gift to yourself to represent the progress that you’re making.   

So in a nutshell, that’s how I approach upgrading my wellness plan. I go through this process every month to make sure that I’m moving forward and that my own needs haven’t been left behind. I encourage you to do the same and get started today on creating a plan that works for your health and wellbeing.
