Does the thought of extra self-care this summer sound like bliss? Even though our ‘to-do’ lists don’t disappear during this beautiful season, the warmth and light makes everything feel a little easier, don’t you think?
So, if you want to feel more serene than stressed this season, then here are a few tips to help you supercharge your self-care this summer...
Use the next few months to cultivate more kindness and self-compassion. If you find yourself in a stressful situation or feel anxious about something, ask yourself, ‘what would I tell a friend in this situation? This shifts your focus and helps you find a solution rather than falling victim to the inner critic that’s trying to run wild in your mind. Cultivate this habit and kindness will begin to take the lead and help you leave self criticism behind. Here are a few more tips on cultivating kindness and self compassion.
Do your mornings feel rushed, stressed or disorganised? There are too many things to do, and if you tried to getting up earlier, they’d be no point in going to bed at all! While your ideal morning might look a lot different to your reality, I promise that there’s something you can do to take a step closer to it this week. It could be as simple as packing bags every night, deciding what everyone’s wearing, creating a family planner so that everyone can take responsibility for what’s going on. Even the simplest change could help the morning run smoother and allow you a few extra minutes to yourself.
This is the season to spend more time outdoors - it helps to lift your mood, reduce stress levels and encourages a better nights sleep - sound good? Try and get outdoors as often as you can - see it as time spent recharging your batteries. Take your morning tea or coffee outside, enjoy a walk at lunchtime, eat outside when you get home, pack up a picnic on the weekends - even if you only take it into the garden. There are so many ways to spend more time outdoors...get creative and make the most of the lighter months.
Summer is a beautiful season to slow down and enjoy a more relaxed pace of life and even if you won’t be packing your suitcase and taking a break this year there are plenty of ways that you can enjoy that restful holiday mood. Be mindful of taking on any extra responsibilities this season and re-schedule anything that’s not important. This will help you free up time to spend nurturing your own self-care this summer in whichever way feels healthy for you.
It’s much easier to eat healthier in the warmer months, don’t you think? Switch those heavy comfort foods for lighter vitamin-rich dishes. Reduce your intake of processed food and nourish your body with fresh seasonal produce to naturally boost your energy levels. Try smoothies for breakfast to increase your fruit intake and swap caffeinated drinks for fresh water - try adding the juice of a lemon or lime for a refreshing mid-morning drink. No change is too small and it all helps to increase your health and happiness.
Yes, I consider decluttering a form of self-care! Why? Because, letting go of anything that we no longer need encourages us to release the past and embrace the present moment. We can’t do that while we’re surrounded by reminders of our past selves, old relationships and clothes that we’ll never wear again. While it’s nice to keep a few things to look back on, let’s be honest, most of us hold on to more than we need to.
I like to think of it this way. There’s a queue of amazing things waiting to arrive in your life; all you need to do is make space for them. That could be a new opportunity, creative project or relationship. Decluttering is a way to create this space in our lives. Doesn’t that make you want to pick up a few boxes and get started.
Please don’t make the mistake of reorganising the clutter - it HAS to be removed. Donate what you can because there’s often someone who will love the very thing that you no longer need. Recycle the rest. Above all enjoy the process and when you’re finished try energetically cleansing your home with our Home Cleansing Ritual Kit to release stagnant and negative vibes.
So, are you ready to supercharge your self-care this summer? Take it one step at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Just imagine the difference you will have made - and how great you’ll feel - by the end of the season.
