6 Ways to Recharge in Minutes

While a couple of weeks on holiday is always a blissful way to recharge, we could all do with finding more ways to bring that relaxed, re-energised feeling into our lives on a daily basis. Well, the good news is that there are quite a few ways we can recharge very quickly, sometimes in minutes - the trick is in knowing what works best for you.

So, I’ve put together some of my favourite ways to recharge quickly. Some of these may well work beautifully for you, but remember that there are many other ways you can achieve the same outcome. Use these as a springboard to finding what works best for you…

1: GO OUTSIDE
Fresh air is one of the best things for us. Even if you live in a city, you may have a park nearby you could head to. Perhaps you are stuck inside an office working for most of the day, and you then head to the Underground to get home. You could get very little light or air during the day. A simple boost of fresh air and light is a wonderfully quick way to recharge whenever you need it.

Better still, work in a few outdoors moments every day. That way, you are less likely to need a recharge to start with.

2: PRACTICE DEEP BREATHING
It’s very easy to breathe from your chest when you get stressed. You don’t even know you’re doing it. But if you start feeling stressed, or low, or just plain tired, stop for a moment. Sit back in your chair and close your eyes.

Now, place a hand on your stomach and make sure you breathe from there – in through your nose, feeling your hand rise. Your chest shouldn’t move. Hold the breath and then let it go gently. I am always amazed at how relaxed I feel when I do this for a moment or two, give it a try and see how much calmer you feel.  afterwards.

3: TAKE SOME EXERCISE
I’m not telling you to head for the gym, or to go out on an hour-long walk or run. Just five minutes around the block will do. Even if it’s raining, a walk can be so refreshing - just remember to take your umbrella! And again, doing this a few times a day can help ward off the tiredness and sluggish feelings to start with.

4: RELAX EVERY PART OF YOUR BODY
Sit down, start from the top of your head and work your way down. You can spend five minutes going down your body and imagining (and feeling) every single body part becoming lower and heavier. Close your eyes for this and focus on how you feel. I guarantee once you stand up again, you’ll feel way more relaxed and refreshed than you did before.

This is another quick lunch break thing you can do if you are at work (you could even pop to the loo and sit in a cubicle to do this if you feel self-conscious). Either that, or head outside, find a bench, and practise doing the moves with your eyes open. No one else will ever know what you are doing…

5: PLAY SOME MUSIC
What kind of music relaxes you? What kind of music recharges you? What inspires you?  Sit down and make a few playlists so that you have them at your fingertips whatever your mood.  Experiment with songs you like until you find the ones that have the right effect on your mood.

6: MEDITATE
I’ve mentioned meditation a lot on my blog, and this is yet another reason why I love it so much. If you are feeling tired, drained, and just need to power through the rest of the day, meditation can do the trick. Not only does it help you calm your frayed nerves, it also feels very cleansing. A few moments spent meditating (especially once you’re used to the process) is all it takes to feel recharged and ready to go again.

I tend to use a mix of these methods depending on which one feels right for me in that moment. My favourites are meditation and getting some fresh air, so I build these into my days as often as I can. When I do that, I rarely need to resort to any other methods to help me recharge.
